Rio De Janeiro Information:

Cosmopolitan city, Brazil's capital for almost 200 years, Rio de Janeiro is one of the most main culture centers on the country, with a lot of cinemas, theaters, museums, rooms of concert, show houses, art galleries and libraries. Big gastronomical zone, the restaurants on the city offer a lot of options, from international cookery to typical dishes from all Brazilian regions. Very few cities in the world are able to concentrate, in a very cool way, all the little icons that makes life a party: beach, sun, samba, frozen beer, tasteful food, football, beautiful people, streets with light curves that lead to little tropical forests.

Copacabana Beach
Copacabana is the most beautiful beach of Rio de Janeiro.Copacabana is one of the world's great beaches, wedged on a strip of land at the foot of the most dramatic hills in very dramatic Rio de Janeiro.Copacabana runs for 5km (3mi) and is so wide that it's more of a sandy park than beach. The view from the old Copacabana Fort located in the south is wonderful. A U-shaped beach (7km long), with the art-deco buildings on the coast (special remarks for the Copacabana Palace Hotel), its famous fancy sidewalks and the Sugar Loaf in the other extreme, is unforgettable. Copacabana is the best example of Rio glorious history, with the glamour of casinos, the charm of the "vedetes"(dancing stars) and the music of the jazz orchestras.Despite recent deterioration of neighborhood, with the presence of prostitutes and transsexuals, Copa, as is it locally called, still very charmy and deserves a visit. With a population of 350,000 spread through just 110 streets in four narrow blocks, Copacabana has one of the world's highest population densities, giving it a non-stop party atmosphere. For pure city excitement, Copacabana is Rio's liveliest theatre.

Ipanema Beach
Worldly famous due to the famous music, Ipanema is probably the best beach of south side Rio.
With the beautiful Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers) Mountain in the south extreme and the rocks of the Arpoador in the north, Ipanema is the beach where the things happen in Rio.The beach is a large part of Rio's culture, and everything revolves around it.
The most beautiful girls are there. on its white sand that best professional soccer players play foot-volley . Ipanema is the of famous artists and charmy people.
The water is normally green and its waves are perfect for bodybording.Ipanema is the true "Praia" culture. Take care your first few days and use plenty of sunscreen, the ultra-violet rays here can easily ruin a vacation. Brazilian women will wear the famous "dental floss" bikinis, all ages, and sizes, so don't feel shy, go like a local.

Ipanema Beach
And the males, well what you may call speedos, or tourists tightes, are called "sungas" here, and they are the proper beach wear, again, all ages and sizes, if you wear anything other, you will be immediatly identified as a tourist. Cariocas do not take a beach towel to the beach. Women sit or lay on their tangas, men sit on their t-shirts or the sand. It is acceptable, for a small fee to rent beach chairs or umbrellas from the local barracas. Drink plenty of water, beers are cheap, but stay away from drinking caparinhas on the beach, the cacacha can be deadly in the sun to "rookies", and if you spill the lime juice on your skin, the hot sun can cause an ugly burn. The water is free from pollution, so feel free to join the zillon other people for a re-freshing dip. Watch and enyoy the ritual that Carioca women go through when they enter the water, it is almost always the same, truley amazing, learned from childhood, a flick of the hair, and adjusting of the bikini top, a quick dunk, another flip of the hair, adjust top and bottom, back to their tanga, and combing of the hair...always while standing up...even the 6 year olds!
